Local support grows for Greenmount at Christmas

With the countdown now on to the start of this years Guinness Christmas
Racing Festival at Limerick Racecourse, the list of activities and entertainment
over the four days continues to grow.
Falling on a Sunday this year, Ladies Day on 28 December is already bookedout
solid in the Panoramic Restaurant and Suites, with only a few remaining
places available elsewhere. The Best Dressed Ladies competition sponsoredby
Irwin Bros Jewellers is the focal point of attention, along with theinaugural
running of the Grade 3 Dorans Pride Novice Hurdle.
Monday 29 December, the last day of the festival will welcome local heroes,
Patrickswell Senior Hurlers to the track to show off their trophy from
the county final, won again this year for the six time in a decade, and
to
launch their aim of running a club fundraiser at Greenmount on the Bank
Holiday raceday, Monday 2 May 2004, this year.
Local business man Pat Slattery and his company Advance Securities return
to sponsor at the track for the second time in four months on the Monday
29 December, and the festival will be wound up with the presentation of
the leading Trainer award by Russell's Bar, the leading Jockey award by
The Dark Horse, and the most successful Yard award of EUR500 by Sean Kelly
Farm Modernisation.
An additional slant to the festival will be the running of the first
Christmas Charity Race Ball on the night of Sunday 28 December at the
Radisson SAS Hotel in Limerick. In support of The Marie Keating Foundation,
the black tie dinner is being snapped up by racegoers with the offer of
freeadmission to the races the following day Monday 29 December, and specialroom
rates for those attending the ball.
Angus Houston, General Manager said, "We have been overwhelmed by
theenquiries and pre bookings for the festival. Only a few places in the
Panoramic Restaurant are left on Monday 29 December, plus a couple of
boxesfor some of the days, and our EUR25 Winter Wonderland package includingmulled
wine, admission, racecard and a hotplate has been selling hand overfist."
Gates open each day at 10.30am, with a special Ladbrokes sponsored MorningLine
starting at 11.15am in the Parade Ring. First Race is off at 12.20pmeach
day, and Buses will be running from Colbert Station each day from 10.45am,
returning to the city up to 5.30pm.
